- The concepts of energy demand and pollution densities refer to the amount of energy use and/or produced or the pollution emitted per unit of land. Their common denominator and driver is urban population density. Despite being of fundamental importance in an urban context, the literature on energy or pollution densities is surprisingly limited, apart from that on urban heat island effects.
